Cleaning EMS Transport Vehicles after Transporting a PUI or Patient with confirmed COVID-19
- Updated: 25 March 2020
This information is taken from the updated EMS COVID-19 Guidelines that were published on March 10, 2020.
“Routine cleaning and disinfection procedures (e.g.. using cleaners and water to pre-clean surfaces prior to applying and EPA-registered, hospital grade disinfectant to frequently touched surfaces or objects for appropriate contact times as indicated on the product label) are appropriate for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in healthcare settings, including those patient care areas in which aerosol-generating procedures are performed”.
The EPA has listed a new category for approved solutions – Emerging Viral Pathogens. Products which have been granted use of this category are listed on the EPA website: https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2.
Two key points
- Cleaning must be performed before disinfection can be achieved
- Not all products currently in use meet this claim. For example, Sani-wipes do but Cavicide does not. Please check your products in use with this listing.
